View Full Version : WOW.......... Are you KIDDING ME??!!!???

This was a first for me....:wow:

Early in the day@ NJMP Thunderbolt, there was a rider in the "B" group, not sure if he was an actual "B" rider or Intro rider but, while in turn 1 a rider crossed onto the same line as he (was still around 6-7 feet ahead of rider) & the following rider BLEW THEIR HORN!!!! I couldn't believe it!!! I thought I was the only one that heard it since I was listening to music on my cell but, another person next to me heard it as well. I understand that there are people that have never been in this type of environment before but, blowing your horn on the track??? That can't be a good thing. To say the LEAST it was distracting, let alone a WTF type of moment & I wasn't even on the track!!

In defense of the horn blower though, I'm sure he was spooked because from my view, it seemed as if the horn guy thought the rider in front was closer than actually was. I still feel that is a no go type of reaction but, then again, I'm not in charge. Just posting something that gave me something to :haha: laugh at after feeling like "Did that just happen???"

Seems like a good way to start a fight
On the track, no horn will I use
So before going out, along with the headlight
I always remember to pull the fuse.

We had a guy come through tech at beaver run last year, OMG i told him to go get his money back! I wasn't passing that bike in tech. Hell he came, to Tech, with a back pack of duct tape and zip tie's. No rear tail section just bare metal exposed, leaky radiator, had the nerve to say dude it's on water! It'll dry up!

Yea...I would not ride w/ an MP3 player. I can assure you that it is against the rules (and if its not written this year, it certainly will next year now that its been brought up).

With regard to the horn, I had mine on my rr all through my races this year. I never blarred it at anyone though. Maybe I should have.

I also seem to remember a discussion on the forum in the past and the general consensus was that no MP3 or other music headphones allowed on the track. I can understand it on the street if you're just slabbing down a straight, boring highway. But, the track? Not cool.

I know Yank and Wade still have horns on their bikes - I think Yank blew it at me when he flew past me last weekend. I want Yank to do it in a wera race though!:D

As for listening to music while on the race track - that's just crazy. There are and were many times that I heard something wrong with my bike or even someone elses when I was on the track that needed to get off the track fast. I don'think I would have heard that stuff while listening to music.

Just a vent - I live in a college town with a bunch of zombies who can't even wash dishes or walk to the store to grab something without their pod in! :D

MP3, not cool. Ear plugs are the way to go. Concentration level is up and wind noise is down. I can still hear everything going on around me and with the bike. As far as brake lights, yesterday at NJMP I noticed a lot of brake lights, even through the tape. Its a simple fix to get rid of it for a track day, just unplug it! Even thought your looking through the corner to your next spot they are totally in your periferial vision. And riding in the "B" group you have to really keep an eye on the guy in front of you because of the parking in corner situation, so that is increasing my concentration on that brake light. I would try to over look it but sometimes I would find it tough. I could see how it could slip through tech, and I was real impressed at the job the tech guys did yesterday. Lenny gave me a helmet check, which overlooked could create a problem with a poor fitting helmet and they found a bolt missing on a guys front brake lever which eliminated a whole bunch of problems for him and someone else. NICE JOB on tech guys.
Thanks, Chris

LOL!!! The afternoon picked up a little bit, in the B class. I found myself a good group of 4 or 5 guys that had a good pace around the track. Then of course in the long right and left it slowed down because of traffic. Still a good group and a good pace. Dont know the guys but I'm sure they know who they are, maybe the last 2 sessions of the day, great time.

Let me guess. Track 1: Symphony of Destruction by Megadeth?

I tape porn pics to my speedometer for inspiration and motivation during a session......no audio though. I couldnt imagine hearing moaning and screaming coming hot into T1 after the straight. Either way, it would give new meaning to the word, asspucker.

I vote Nay on the Ipod. Twist that throttle a little bit more-especially on that 1000rr, that'll pull your attention back to the track. It's my opinion, not yours. Maybe worth an amendment to the rules though.

I'm trying to understand how you possibly focus better and ride better while adding yet another thing on your to do list while riding your bike. I just don't get it. Between focusing on my turn, brake, accelerate markers, feeling traction at both the front and rear of the bike, thinking about mistakes I'm making, following the race line, reacting to the movements of the people around me, etc etc...I don't understand how listening to music while doing all of the above things could possibly make any of them easier. Especially when you can't hear the engine or the people around you.

Not to mention the possibility of strangulation in the event of an agricultural experience. :meatball:

And if you crash and trash your iPod, isn't adding the cost of replacing that to the cost of the crash adding insult to injury? I'm SURE Morph would LOVE to have another B grouper ass pack him because he was busy hitting his click wheel while setting up for T1 at Summit.

I agree with all the CR's and Advanced riders that have chirped in on this thread. The track's NOT the place for the iPod. They're the voices of reason and experience talking here, experience you do not have. Am I a CR or A group rider, No. But I've been around NESBA since 2002. I can ALMOST recite the rider's manual and I have a TON of respect for these guys and gals because they give their time and effort to help me, and you, grow and progress as riders in a safe, controlled environment. They're not only trying to look out for your safety, but the rest of your group as well. If your bike's revving and your iPod's jammin' how can you hear the rider who is about to pass you? He or she's putting a wheel on you, but you don't hear it because Motley Crue's "Smokin' in the Boys Room" is filling your auditory senses. You hear them at the very last second, it spooks you, you jerk, put a steering input into the bars, swerve to where you looked while the other rider is executing the pass, and SLAM, you two share a ride together on the crash truck, and maybe meet some really nice EMTs in the process. You may have bikes to spare around the house, but how would you feel about taking out a rider who has a family, has to miss work because if injuries he sustained because you had to get your groove on?

In every response you've posted in this thread you've only thought of and spoken of YOUR needs. What about the wants, needs, and desires of everyone else in your group during your session? Do you realize your ignorant disregard for your own as well as their safety goes against everything the NESBIAN WAY has stood for for almost 15 years?

Instead of listening so much to your iPod, maybe you should listen to these CRs. I also hope the Directors and CR's are reading this thread so they catch you and anyone else trying to sneak portable music players onto any NESBA track session.

When it comes to track day safety, forgive me ladies, but I have a HARD ON for that shit. I want everyone I meet to have more fun than they can have without contraceptives like I do, and we all go home with our bikes shiny to tuck back in the garage until our respective next events.

D-Zum Over and OUT.

more people ride with than you guys think.....

i do not know for a fact, but i would guess that if someone does have some music running while they are riding that they are not listening and concentrating to the music per-say, but simply have it running and for what ever reason... it helps them concentrate, focus and relax........ you get in to somewhat of a rhythm yah know....

personally right now, i wear ear-plugs and spend my 15-20 mins humming "Mary had a little lamb".........

Oh, and please don't listen to it on the track or on the road. The number of times I've been cut off while commuting to work by an iPod wearing chucklehead makes me think I need even LOUDER pipes on the ol' Duc.

the market is way ahead of you! http://store.playawaydigital.com/ PlayAway is approaching major fast-food franchises (high employee turnover) to train their people. it's practically a disposable iPod, but not quite.
