I have just purchased new rotors (Galfer wave rotors) and some pads. I am looking for some information on how much break-in I need to do before I take the bike to the track on the 15th. Or will they be ready to go right out of the box? Thanks in advance.

What pads did you get?

Clean the rotors with brake clean to remove any grease or oil that might be on them (before you use them).

If you have Vesrah pads, mount them up and go. No real need to bed them in. The first few times you brake, the pads will not be perfect, but after a half lap you're set. This is just so the pads and rotors mate.

they are Galfer HH pads. I just don't want to cook the rotors. Those things are expensive as hell.

You won't cook them. Mind if I ask why you bought new rotors?

I just bought a set of vesrah pads from Derrick (sp) and I am looking forward to them being on the bike for Jersey. The 25th at vir was not cool I felt I was squeezing abit, quite abit harder than normal. cannot wait to see what the hub bub is about.

Stock got warped. I started feeling at Beaverun in July and it just got progressively worse. I could probably get by with the stock but I don't ride well enough to have something like that in the back of my mind. Bad tires, brakes and/or fasteners are what could keep me from enjoying myself.

Amen to that! No need to affect the mind in a negative way.

If you're swapping from one brand of pad to another, i suggest using a ScotchBrite pad or some emory cloth to clean to old pad material off the rotors.

[QUOTE=Rick Johnson;13678]Dave your gonna love the vesrah pads. They are waaay better then stock. If you brake real hard you want to slide all the way back on the seat just before you squeeze the brakes to help keep the rear tire on the ground.

Scott,

Just to clarify, I need to clean the new rotors to get any grease and/or oil off and then load up the new pads (both Galfer products) and I should be good to go for a track day. No real break-in necessary.

Mike.

You might need to bed the Galfer pads in. I'm not sure what they suggest. If the directions mention to bed them in, i would do so. A couple of incresingly harder braking series should do. I know with the Vesrah's you can go full tilt right off the bat.

If they are new rotors, yes, make sure to wipe them down with brake clean. Many times there could be some junk on them from packaging to keep them looking purdy.

Ride a session and check your rotor bolts after just in case.
