thought you might get a kick out of this.

When I tell people I have my trackday this weekend, they look at me confused. At first I tried to explain what NESBA is: a bunch of people that want a safe outlet to push the limits of themselves and thier bike. And people say: is it a race?

no

but its on a race track?

yes

is there a finish line?

well, yes but it doesnt matter who crosses it first. theres no winner

so...its just a bunch of losers on the track then?

exactly! haha

I don't know about you but I get a checkered flag at the end of most sessions! :first:

does the person you were explaining this to:
1. Wear cutoff shorts when they ride?
2. append y'all to every sentence?
3. have a 75 tooth sprocket on their harley?
4. think full face helmets hide their inner beauty?
5. drive their mom's accord with a triple-fin carbon fiber wing on it?
6. ever been to a NESBA day and stood at a turn?

If you answered no to all of the questions: please ask them to sign up for an Intro day and reflect on their 'Losers' statement. I believe they would have a different outlook on our addiction. :poorguy:

I know that guy. He works at the 'stealership' and told me that a 600 is a wimps bike.

If you go home with yourself and your bike in the same condition you arrived in you win trackday so there are plenty of winners every trackday. Also some losers every trackday.

Ask Revvin' Evan who won the NESBA Trackday 2008 Championship with a superb performance in Round 12- NJMP Oct. 6, 2008. He fudged the S's on the last lap and I ended up taking the trophy home for the holidays. :first:

I've become so sick of trying to explain what a track day is, that when people ask if I race, I just say "yes."

I do the same...plus it makes me sound cool.
Until the next time these people see me and ask if i won the "race".

I do the same thing. I do not want people to confuse me doing a track day with racing. Even though they are similar they are different at the same time.

Been there done that. I answer no mainly cause I am fat and slow! That usually ends the potential followup questions.

This had me laughing for 10 min. Great Post avizpls!

As for what I tell people, I just tell them that I'm going to a racing school where they help me to improve my ability to ride.

I like the practice idea. I think I'll start using that.

I think the pics of bikes with numbers on the front and knees down are what confuse the non-track rider its not a race.

I just explain the numbers are for the CR's and corner workers to keep track of who's who in case someone is breaking the rules.

This seems to make people more at ease when I say NESBA has passing rules. I don't have to explain them, I just have to say it.

I say "practice" as well. I don't hold a racing license with any organization for insurance purposes.

if people question why I do it, I ask, "do you like roller coasters?" most answer yes. "ok, now think of how much more fun it would be if you got to go around for 20 minutes at a time, and YOU controlled how fast or slow the roller coaster went."

i just tell people i'm hanging out at the track with some friends....usually they get the hint when they haven't been invited lol

honestly though, its always been a great place to hang out with great friends...the great equalizer you might say

yeah, i go through the same thing. i showed somebody a pic of me at the track that had like 3 or 4 bikes in it. when they asked which one i was i pointed it out and said that i'm the one in the front. so i hear "wow, so you won the race". some folks just don't get it. :dunno:

i've told people that it's a controlled environment for skills enhancement opportunity and there are folks there to help you out if you want. otherwise, you pretty much ride your own ride and it's just for fun. it's funny cuz they think it's cool and seem interested as long as they think that you race, then when they find out you aren't actually racing they just give you that look. :haha:

WOW! i'm glad i'm not the only one who is approached with the whole trackday/winning /slash confusion thing. i've come to the realization that if your not doing it then you just don't get it.

My best explanation of a trackday is to just say what it is. I just tell them that I belong to a club that rents a race track to have fun on all day long. Even the little old ladies at church seems to understand what I'm talking about when I explain it like that.

When I told my boss that I was going to ride my bike at a track day, he asked questions that made me believe that he thought I was going to be doing this:

Now I just tell people that I ride my motorcycle around a race track for fun.
